Uniflex Systems has finished a tailor-made “Smart Port” – related application for the programmable automation controllers used in Port of Tallinn. The role of these controllers is to interface all the traffic lights, barriers and presence sensors in the port with the central access control server. The controllers unify the communication between the devices and the servers, taking also care of setup parameters for the periphery devices. Some simpler control decisions are also made in the controller application, to offload these tasks from the central server. Such a layered approach to the complex automation system realization helps to reduce the overall complexity and to improve reliability.
